I have over 10 years of clinical experience in working with a range of communication difficulties across the lifespan in private practice, with schools and charities and with the HSE in both disability and primary care services. I currently specialize in face to face and online speech and language therapy for children and adults who stammer children who experience unclear speech (speech sound delay and disorder) children and adults with developmental language disorder Face to face therapy is currently provided by home visit in Laois and Kilkenny areas. Home-based sessions offer several key advantages. I have found that both children and adults feel far more relaxed and at ease in their own environment, and all of my face to face clients comment that this allows for their best possible learning and growth. Therapy in the home makes for far better integration of therapy into real-life daily routines and supports family involvement. Home visits have been very helpful for busy families and clients with mobility issues, childcare difficulties, anxiety about clinic settings, or limited access to transport. Online speech and language therapy is particularly suitable for older children, teenagers and adults. Research consistently supports the effectiveness of teletherapy for SLT. In practice, my online clients and I have found that the online format works really well. Many older children and teenagers engage enthusiastically with digital resources, and adults and teenagers appreciate the flexibility, and discretion of online sessions. Where appropriate, I also combine online sessions with home visits for a hybrid approach that best suits the patient's needs. I also offer school based SLT supports, either onsite in schools or online. I have had two immediate family members who have attended SLT. Alongside my clinical experience, I have a unique insight into what it means for someone to experience communication difficulties in everyday life, and what it means for their families and communities to support them. I operate an online booking system for sessions, which allows for more convenient and flexible booking. I offer different types of SLT service individualised to each person's needs, time, resources and goals. The social model of disability is an important part of my ethos as a therapist. We can all challenge the societal barriers imposed on people who experience communication difficulties. If you would like to make an enquiry, please complete the following form: https://forms.microsoft.com/r/HAdia8wRFp Find me on Instagram @brightclouds_slt Martina Dwyer CORU Registered Speech and Language Therapist SL010456, IASLT, ISTI.
